Media Literacy PSA

My PSA is targeting teenagers all around the world. I chose the title Think Before You Hit Send because a lot of teenagers are always sending messages and posting things on social media every day. Teenagers need to look at the statistics that I have given and see that they really need to think before they post anything. They need to be careful what they post and make sure that it is not hurting others, giving themselves a bad reputation or even getting them in trouble in school. My PSA has images that students can look at as well as text that explains everything. I want teenagers to be able to say that they are going to take another minute and think about everything before they post something on social media after they have watched this little video. I want to enlighten teenagers and make them think about everything that they post on social media and whether it is something that can hurt others or themselves.  If they are guilty of posting things that can hurt them or others, I hope that they can start taking responsibility for their actions and start really thinking about it the next time that they go to posting something. I think that my PSA used the emotional appeal persuasive technique because every thing that I used is from research and experience with watching teenagers post things online. I think that a lot of teenagers can relate to this topic and I hope that it helps them when they need to consider whether or not to post something on social media.

  1. I really like the title of your PSA. It’s a simple statement/slogan that is catchy and easy to remember. I also believe that the title of your PSA makes its purpose extremely clear. The way that you incorporated both image and text to get your point across provides evidence and relevance to the problem and also anticipates the viewers as to what is coming next within the ad. You argue your own opinion very well, and I agree with it completely. Nice work!

  2. This is another great PSA telling teens to think before they post things online. It’s an important message for us to get across to teens, and your video will do a great job at that. The music is simple and not distracting from the information on your slides. The same is true of the background you chose. The facts and statistics are informative and really help to focus the message on the prevalence of online usage by teenagers. The tips to “THINK” should be more widely shared, because this is a great acronym for teens to remember.I especially love the slide about saying things in front of your grandma and the picture you used there. It has some powerful emotional appeal, because no one wants their grandma to see what they post! Nice job on your PSA!

  3. We had a very similar idea: think before you post. Everyone, adults as well as teens, would benefit from seeing this PSA and taking two seconds to think about what they are posting. I think that you PSA flows well, using a mix of pictures, that aid your emotional appeal, and stats, that bring to light information perhaps people really don't know. Overall I think that you did an excellent job and that people who use social media should heed the advice you offer.

  4. Your slogan and call to action are easy to understand. I like how you synthesized all the technical elements for a cohesive message. Your facts and pictures go together very well, and the intensity of the facts presented matches up with the tone and tempo of the music.
