The Power of Storytelling

I chose to watch this story because I could relate to someone living with anxiety. This girl deals with her issues by using poetry to escape and share her feelings. She talks about the obstacles that she has gone through and how poetry has helped her cope.

I chose to watch this story because I have always wanted to learn the piano. Sierra’s story is how playing the piano helps her relax and she tells her background of learning to play and how it is her passion.

I chose to watch this story because it deals with a person seeking their dreams but still gaining his mothers approval. I think we all want to have someone’s approval throughout our life.

I chose to watch this story because it talks about overcoming bullying and being who you are meant to be. I think that a lot of people could relate to bullying and overcoming the issues that you can happen when you are trying to move past it. Always accept yourself for who you are. I think that this video goes right along with our PSAs.

I chose this story because it is about a girl that gets diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at age 17. This story is about having the support and love to get through the obstacles in life.
What do you like about the digital story? This digital story was very inspiring for those that have been diagnosed with something severe and changing your life. I love how she had different people give feedback about her and her experience throughout her story.
What did you learn from the digital story? I learned the symptoms and issues that multiple sclerosis brings with it when people are diagnosed.
What surprised you about the digital story? I couldn’t believe how unsupportive some of her teachers were to her when she was diagnosed. Teachers wouldn’t help her and called her slow.
What social problem was the digital story addressing? Aurora was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She talks about fighting with depression and how she never gave up and wouldn’t accept defeat.
How did the digital story provide an example of how digital storytelling can build self esteem, help young people voice an opposition to social problems, or create an alternative to stereotypes of adolescents typically portrayed in mainstream media? This digital story was very inspired and displayed how a young girl has had to battle a disease and find strength through it. She is able to share her insight and what she has had to go through. She also shows all of the love and support that she has had as well.
Do (or how do) these digital stories provide evidence of that these young people are engaged in analysis of their own culture? These digital stories are about what the author sees and how they live their life and go through their issues. They are showing their culture by making stories that go along with their life and how they feel.
Do (or how do) these digital stories support a healthy respect for multiculturalism and diversity?

These videos show that everyone is different and that everyone is overcoming their own issues in their life. No one should be judged on what they do. Each of the stories that I watched dealt with something different that a lot of people can relate to. Even though we are all different we are going through our own problems and some may be the same as others.

  1. Wow, what an insightful story. With watching, I gained a vast amount of information pertaining to MS. I feel that this story was one of courage and strength, but also gratitude and appreciation. I like that she shared her battle, but also, more importantly she was humble and expressed her thanks for all the love and support that had been expressed to her. I felt the message of this story was clear in portraying that everyone is fighting their own battle and most of those battles are ones that people are not aware of. Therefore, don’t be so quick to judge.

  2. Wow, this is definitely an inspiring story. I cannot even imagine being in her shoes. She is so positive with her attitude, even saying that even after all she has been trough, she knows it could still be worse. I think that she is very brave to continue to have pushed through all the pain to keep playing sports. Her story could help others in her shoes by showing them her determination and her will power to continue to live a normal life.

  3. This video was very informative for me. I have a friend whose mom was diagnosed with MS a few years ago, and I had a general idea of what it stood for but I didn't realize just how debilitating it can be. I admire Aurora's positivity and perseverance. You can tell from the testimonies of her many friends that she is a truly remarkable individual. I think it's great that she continued to question her doctors' diagnoses when she felt that the information being presented to her didn't accurately represent what she was going through. She seems like a very driven girl who will succeed in any endeavor she chooses, regardless of her physical limitations. Thanks for sharing!
